Play K & Kindergarten Transition
Making the transition into kindergarten a smooth one for children and families was one of the main goals of Cruise Libraries! The Play K curriculum, launched during the second year of the Cruise into Kindergarten initiative, is currently being used successfully in libraries across the state to provide early learning experiences for children and families. It has been modified and adapted from its original form by many libraries to best fit their needs and the needs of their communities. You can access the curriculum components online (see below).
In addition to the original curriculum documents, each of the eight playscapes has been revised for 2021 (see below) to include one more programming option: virtual! At the onset of the pandemic in 2020, a webinar was developed and delivered on virtual programming with Play K to provide ideas and guidance on how to adapt the delivery of Play K to the new virtual landscape. Since virtual programming is not likely to go away in the foreseeable future, the curriculum has now been updated to include this option. We hope this addition allows everyone with Play K to be able to utilize the materials and resources in ways that best meet their needs and the needs of their communities.
